There
are a wide range of raw materials in Powys that could
be recycled/reused to generate energy and thus reduce
waste that is sent to landfill or left to rot. The Energy
and Waste projects aim to add value to the waste produced
in Powys and to develop ways in which renewable energy
can be used in a rural environment.
Through working in partnership with
relevant businesses and organisations, we aim to add
value to waste products by offering assistance with
research, product development, marketing and publicity.
Glasu also acts as a facilitator
by holding meetings to bring together interested individuals
to discuss taking forward ideas.
Examples of projects that are currently
underway:
- Wood
Fuels in Powys - designed
to identify, promote and maximise opportunities for
the development of the sustainable wood energy sector
in Powys. The main aim of the project will be to improve
the quality, availability and competitiveness of renewable
wood fuels in the form of logs, chips and pellets
in Powys.
- Innovative
Waste Management - to find
innovative ways of tackling commercial waste (not
covered by Local Authority or national recycling targets)
by finding new routes to recycling, new products and
new markets. It is envisaged that communities will
become involved in waste minimisation.
- Accessing
Innovation - to enable
Glasu to continue to add value in an innovative and
sustainable manner. This support will encourage new
ideas to come forward and to deliver specific projects
not covered by the existing three programmes.
